Prati di Tivo (AQ)

Skiing in Abruzzo

Prati di Tivo is the most famous mountain resort in the Teramo province of Abruzzo, located at 1,450 m.a.s.l. on the north-eastern slopes of the Gran Sasso d'Italia massif, in the territory of Pietracamela.

Towered by the majestic Corno Piccolo slope, this skiing area is the perfect starting point for exhilarating ski mountaineering courses, among the most spectacular in the Apennines.

As for cross-country skiing, there is a 3 km loop, unwinding in the ‘Prati Bassi’ area, skirting the Miramonti Hotel and crossing the age old beech wood; the loop is characterised by interesting ups and downs for a total slope gradient of about 150 m.

The trail is constantly machine-groomed and has an average width of 6 m, suitable for both classic and skating techniques; all the necessary facilities (bar, food, refuge, restrooms) are in the immediate vicinity. From here you can also enjoy ski touring and snowshoe trails with excursions organised by local C.A.I. Alpine and Middle Mountain Guides.

Possible itineraries comprise the planes of the small lake of Cima Alta, the age old beech woods of Arapietra or, for the bravest, the Val Maone.
