Macchiarvana (AQ)

Skiing in Abruzzo

The Macchiarvana plateau, among the Monte Tranquillo, Serra Traversa and Serra del Re beech woods, is one of the most interesting environments in the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park.

The amphitheatre, 1,430 m high, in the territories of Opi and Pescasseroli, is located in a scenery of unparalleled beauty, among glades and beech woods with millennia old trees, among which the great Mount Tranquillo maple tree.

This is the ideal setting for alternative kinds of skiing, with numerous itineraries dedicated to cross-country skiing, ski touring and snowshoeing.

Cross-country trails, with their various degrees of difficulty - from blue to black - and with lengths from 3 to 15 km, can satisfy anyone.

Very important is the number of facilities in the area, bars, ski school and equipment rental, supported by the Italian School of Cross-Country Skiing - Macchiarvana.

The itineraries unwind from the ‘Coppo’ locality to Macchiarvana through Camporotondo, Campolungo, the Sancturay of Mount Tranquillo and even reach the town of Pescasseroli.

Crossing these places you will realise that you are not alone; paying a little heed you will be able to ‘read’ the tracks of wild animals such as bears, wolves, deer, roes, wild boars etc. and with due care and caution, unforgettable sightings are possible.
