Lama Bianca (AQ)

Skiing in Abruzzo

Lama Bianaca is treasure casket of high biodiversity with over 1800 species of plants and a wildlife of all relief, the Majella preserves various and diversified natural environments.

In this north-west side of the Orta Valley, the mountain is characterized by a steep slope in which there are narrow detrital gullies called Rave.

In the lowest part the slopes are reduced and the woods thicken. Here, in winter, between beech trees and glades you can practise cross-country and ski mountaineering as well as snowshoeing in fresh snow.

At the Cross-country skiing Centre in Sant’Eufemia you can rent all the equipment for skiing.

The rings are those in the area of Lama Bianca (1300 m): a rather challenging ring wounds up and down inside a fairy beech wood allowing to enjoy charming scenarios.

A smaller ring winds around the old pasture (1226 m), today a CAI refuge, accessible by snowmobile leaving from the centre of the village. The beating of the slopes is provided in good snow conditions. With snowshoes you can go hiking from Macere Piane up to Macchiola and Lama Bianca.

As for the ski mountaineering several routes through the Rave lead to Monte Amaro and Pescofalcone; anyway you should always be accompanied by expert guides.
